The Open Road

There's nothing that I love like a good road trip. Windows down, favourite songs blasting, and not much in sight other than the open road. Also taken on the road to Coachella, for these photos we pulled off onto a deserted road by the train tracks. The view was too scenic to pass up.

Note: this post does not condone playing on train tracks.

LOVE these temp tattoos by Flash Tattoos.

I recently discovered the online shop where I got this complete Coachella-esque outfit. The store is just my style - bohemian pieces with a bit of modern edge and designer-inspired looks for WAY less. With the travelling I've been doing lately I can seriously use a break for my dwindling bank account (without substituting style). I'm in love!

Springs Fling

Last weekend during Coachella, my beauty blogger friend Mash and I stayed at the beautiful 7 Springs Inn in Palm Springs. I've never been out to southern California nor the desert before, and I absolutely fell in love.

The road to Coachella at one point turns into an endless view of the Valley of Windmills with far away mountains in the backdrop. Then all of a sudden, you hit a small hub of activity in Palm Springs, with flowering trees and palms higher than any visible building. The contrast is unlike anywhere I've seen.

Absolutely LOVE our metallic Flash Tattoos

So it's a little windy out there. Go wind power!

*Note: please excuse my untameable hair and obnoxious Coachella bracelet in the next few posts.

California, Here We Come

If you don't know by now based on my many Instagrammed photos and tweets, I spent the past week in California and headed to Coachella in the desert over the weekend. It was my first time ever to southern California and let me tell you this: everything I thought of when I used to imagine California, the dreamy skylines, sunsets, mint weather, and gorgeous coastlines, are true. All of it. I felt like I was living in a hazy dream world.

My dad always tells me the novelty of living somewhere like that will soon wear off, but everyone I met who lives there says it's the complete opposite. Every new day in California has a little bit of magic to it. Maybe it's time to plan a move...

By no means will this post do the trip justice, especially seeing as I have over 1000 photos to sort through to try to paint you guys a picture. However I was lucky enough to travel with my fantastic beauty blogger friend Mash of Mash-Elle Blog and we got some killer style shots you'll see in upcoming posts.

Our first day in Los Angeles, our friend brought us to an amazing little cafe called Aroma Coffee & Tea Co in Studio City. The cafe used to be a charming home and was converted into a full service cafe, but still has the quaint romantic atmosphere (plus amazing food). Be sure to visit if you're in the area!

Day two, Michelle and I drove out to Laguna Beach. The coast is absolutely breathtaking with houses high on the hilltops overlooking the ocean. We even saw two whales breaching off shore!

Exploring Laguna's shores

The Grove, Los Angeles is a mainly outdoor shopping and entertainment complex (and incredibly beautiful). Across the street from the Farmer's Market, The Grove has a lot of my favourite stores (like Anthropologie and Johnny Was) plus an amazing market with tons of treats for my huge sweet-tooth. Snapped with actor Max Arciniega (Krazy-8 on Breaking Bad and total stud). ;)

Mash and I at Santa Monica Pier!

The drive out to Palm Springs

Palm Springs took my breath away. The contrast of desert against the mountains was insanely beautiful.

We'll miss this place!

Stay tuned for some more style posts snapped around L.A. and in the desert! Hope you all had an incredible week!

Festival Footwear

With summer just around the corner, Coachella is about to kick off a promisingly incredible festival season. While I’m still trying to decide which of my 10 floppy hats to bring, maxi skirt or romper, how much fringe is TOO much fringe etc. it’s sometimes easy to overlook the arguably most important part of the festival outfit: the shoes. Uncomfortable footwear is your one-way ticket to a miserable festival experience. After 6 hours in the heat, rain or mud, the last thing you want is to be running to the delightful porta-potties or between stages to catch your favourite artist in 5 inch heeled booties.  Trust me. The trick is to find a balance of comfort and cute.

On my 2014 festival wish list? Gladiator-style sandals (like the ones from Free People), ankle booties, and florals (like those from Dr. Martens or Nike). These 6 finds top my list of ideal festival footwear.

1)   Free People Decibel Sandals
2)   Sam Edelman Louie Fringe Booties
3)   Doc Marten 1460 Victorian Flowers Boots
4)   Dolce Vita Yuri Booties
5)   Nanette Lepore Double Time Slip Ons
6)   Nike x Liberty High Tops

Happy festing'!
